Doing The Things That Will Get You There

Happy Friday! We have made it another week.
Today, I want to talk about the motivation for life that you can find in showing up for yourself.
The motivation you are looking for each day is going to be found in making sure you get to where you’re supposed to be. The motivation you are looking for each day is going to be found in forcing your body up and getting it to all the necessary stops for that day. Half of having motivation is learning that you have to push through the things you don’t want to do long enough to generate the momentum, and energy, that will help you make it through your day. There is a saying that goes, “Fake it until you make it”. I take that to mean, you pretend you have the energy and motivation until the actual feeling decides to show up.
Just because we don’t like something, or don’t FEEL like doing something, or say that we don’t have the motivation to get started, doesn’t mean that the same things we don’t want to do- don’t have to still get done. This is where the work comes in. This is where people start asking HOW.
HOW do you push through that feeling? HOW do you generate feelings inside? HOW?
Well, the answer isn’t one you probably want to hear, but the answer is… Just start.
There is something beautifully strange that happens when your body decides to challenge the brain and do its own thing. Immediately, there is a new feeling of self-esteem that arises solely from, doing something for the good of your self. All of the sudden you are slowly learning that you don’t have to listen to the feeling. That the feeling is just a…. feeling. Just an alert. Push past what you WANT to do and focus on doing the things that specifically help to better your own self. Then, slowly but surely, I can almost guarantee that you will feel a sense of something, even if it’s small and you aren’t quite sure what it is. I know that feeling to be, motivation beginning to build momentum. It is your body gearing up to support you in whatever it is that day you want to take on. That feeling is your body showing your limbic system that feelings aren’t real and we get to choose what we do with the feelings.
When I started really forcing myself to make doctors’ appointments, show up to the friend meetups, and purposely leave my house earlier each day, so even if I hit traffic I wouldn’t be late.
When I began making modifications in my daily life to better suite me, and then actually followed through on them…. Everything changed.
I suddenly started noticing that things weren’t as dreadful to face anymore. While I was doing things, it wasn’t such a pain in the butt to get projects done. I was motivated. I was excited I could do all these new things I had no idea I was even capable of. All from…. Just showing up for myself.
Today, I challenge all of us to write down 5 things that can be done to contribute in a positive way to your own life. After you complete one, no matter how long it takes, put a check mark next to it and then give yourself a high-five. Yes, you read that right. Give yourself a high-five. All of these things will signal your brain that things are going well, and you are feeling great. This is how we generate our own motivation and take back control of our own selves.
Together, we can do this, and we are all worth doing the things that will help to get us where we want to be in life. Have a great rest of your day and keep going! You’ve got this! – Dani
